Shark Tail Ontogeny

Research on this topic is based on the idea that as sharks age and grow they move through different environments. Starting in mangroves or similar environments is common for many small fishes, including shark pups. Sharks are then able to grow and move from those enclosed areas to coral reefs and cross entire oceans. The tail may change isometrically or allometrically as the shark changes its environmental needs.
