NY Times: Galapagos Treasure under Threat

The New York Times recently featured Dr. David Anderson’s work in the Galapagos on the Blue-footed boobies.

The number of boobies, known for their brightly colored feet and signature mating dance, has dropped by 50 percent in the last 20 years, according to a paper published in the journal Avian Conservation and Ecology. Researchers estimate their current population at about 6,400 birds, just half of the last, decidedly rough, estimate from the 1960s.
