On November 7-8, 2014, the Department of Biology hosted the 30th Perspectives in Biology Symposium. This annual event brings 3 notable biologists to campus to share their passion for science and recent research results with faculty colleagues from institutions throughout the southeast. Each invited speaker gives two seminars and has ample opportunity to meet with faculty and graduate students. There is also ample opportunity to socialize and compare notes on the past year of teaching and research. This year’s presenters were Professors Simon Gilroy from the University of Wisconsin; Heather Patisaul from North Carolina State University, and Robert DeSalle from the American Museum of Natural History. Participating faculty traveled to Winston-Salem from the following institutions: Belmont Abbey College, Central Piedmont Community College, Central Virginia Community College, Danville Community College, Davidson County Community College, Forsyth Tech, Francis Marion University, Guilford Technical Community College, High Point University, Salem College, South Carolina State UniversityThomas Nelson Community College, Virginia Western Community College, and Wake Technical Community College. Planning for PIB 2015 is already in progress.
