Did you ever take a quiz under water? Wearing a snorkel? The undergraduates enrolled in the Spring 2015 version of BIO 311/312, Ecology and Conservation Biology of Coral Reefs spent their spring break working with faculty at Lighthouse Reef Atoll in Belize, but before they left Biology graduate teaching assistant Benjamin Perlman put the students through their paces in the Wake Forest University pool. The students were required to snorkel around the pool and identify 22 different species of marine fishes and 8 species of corals. Other Department of Biology courses with an overseas component include BIO 356, Ecology and Resource Management of Southeast Australia and BIO 343, Tropical Ecology, a summer course in which students conduct fieldwork in Peru.
